Creative Head:Ranjith
Theatre:Vinayaka Paradise,Kanhangad
Status:50%
This year is gonna be a great year for malayalam cinema. After the mighty Pazhassi Raja, another brave attempt is on screens.'Kerala Cafe' is a joint venture of 10 directors on 10 short scripts on a common platform creatively headed by filmmaker Ranjith.
The film starts with a brief description by director Sathyan anthikkad about the movie. Many had doubt whether itz a new 20-20.But his brief made it clear it is of 10 different stories based on a common theme 'Yathra'.Now getting on to the reviews...

1.Nostalgia
Director:M.Padmakumar
Cast:Dileep,Navya Nair

This film emphasises on 'Fraud Nostalgia' of People in abroad. While on abroad they wide opens their mouth about the motherland, its culture, traditions but while on game, they just forgets everything and is contracted to their self.Dileep and Navya nair has given satisfactory perfomances. The script could have been better.
Rating:3.5/5

2.Island Express
Director:Shankar Ramakrishnan
Cast:Prithviraj,Jayasurya,Rahman

This film is one of the best in this group. The director has proved he is a good choice in future. The movie is a tribute to the peruman tragedy almost two decades ago.The film breaks certain cliches of film making in malayalam.Cinematography was superb.Prithviraj has given a good perfomance, his voice modulation was excellent. All other cast gave great support.A director's film...
Rating:4.1/5

3.Lalitham Hiranmayam
Director:Shaji Kailas
Cast:Suresh Gopi,Jyothirmayi

This film walks through the old path itself.Extra marital affair is the one line of the story. The king maker of action films have changed his path a bit in this film to a triangular love story.Eventhough suresh Gopi and jyothirmayi has given credible perfomances, the film fails to impress.Better it can be noted as 'old wine in new bottle'.
Rating:2.8/5

4.Mrithyunjayam
Director:Uday Ananthan
Cast:Fahhad,Rima Kallungal,Thilakan

This film is a horror thriller.Don't know whether it can be called a thriller. The film is not able to thrill the audience. But the debutant work of the director is not at all bad.It has almost a good script, good shots, but the main point which lacked in the movie was a good plot. The script couldn't end up well.Director Fazhil's son has given a great perfomance, forget his first big mistake "Kaiyethum Doorathu'.He has evolved as a good actor.Other cast has also given a good support.
Rating:3.5/5

5.Happy Journey
Director:Anjali Menon
Cast:Jagathy Sreekumar,Nithya Menon

This film is another greatwork in the group. The award winning director,Anjali Menon has proved her skills as a director.A humour based subject, portrayed with a brilliant touch.Jagathy sreekumar is Back. One of his best perfomances in recent times.Nithya menon is a charm to watch. The credit goes to the director.Brilliant work.
Rating:4.2/5
6.Aviramam
Director:B.Unnikrishnan
Cast:Sidhique,Swetha Menon

The film is an attempt to visualise the after effects of the recent headline,Economical Recession. The script,by the director himself is a good one, almost a good directed film.Sidhique and Swetha Menon has given full potential to the film.A nice venture
Rating:4/5

7.Off Season
Director:Shyamaprasad
Cast:Suraj Venjaramood

A humour based subject with suraaj doing a role of guide.A simple story of freindship or humanitarian love.Though it has some good sequences from suraj, nothing much to offer.A satisfactory work.
Rating:3.5/5

8.Bridge
Director:Anwar Rasheed
Cast:Salim Kumar,Kalpana

The best among the group. One of the best film in recent times.Brilliant script,Excellent direction and some good perfomances. The film is all about one subject 'Care'.The master director of colourful films,Anwar Rasheed has proved his bolts, that he can do any sort of subject. Two big Thumps Up for the director.Everyone in the cast has given their maximum.Another point to be mentioned was its cinematography,Very nice.Kudos to the team.
Rating:4.5/5

9.Makal
Direction:Revathy
Cast:Sona Nair,Sreenath

An eye opener against the sexual mafia having very deep roots.Good direction. The naturality, which the perfomances of the children had should be worth mentioned. The actress who had done the role of the mother has given great perfomance.A nice work
Rating:4.1/5

10.Puram Kazhchakal
Direction:Lal Jose
Cast:Mammootty,Sreenivasan
Another excellent piece of work in kerala cafe.A short film based on C.V.Sreeraman's short story.Good direction by Lal Jose.Mammootty and Sreenivasan as usual given stellar perfomances. But felt like direction could have been better. The flash back scenes of the character of sreenivasan should have been made better.Very touching climax and has a good message to the new generation.
Rating:4.2/5

At last the good times of malayalam cinema is Back.A film with a difference. For those people who just find mere entertainment in cinemas, keep a mile away from this film. But for good cinema lovers,A treat. The credit goes to Renjith, the co-ordinator of Kerala Cafe.
Overall rating:4/5
Box Office Verdict:Hit/Great critical acclaim
